Technical Details

The Making of the Metal Dento-Infusor Tip

Dr. Fischer designed the earliest version of the Metal Dento-Infusor tip in the basement of his home in Utah. In one of his lab experiments, Dr. Fischer pulled an IV syringe from his supply cabinet, cut off the needle point, and used an orthodontic tie wire to pull a retraction cord through the needle. Using orthodontic pliers, he then bent the needle into the shape the MDI tip still comes in today.

Step 1

Burnish the hemostatic agents firmly against the sulcus until bleeding stops. (No more coagulum forms.)

Step 2

A blunt, bent cannula with padded "scrub brush" enables infusing and cleaning in the cut sulcus.

Step 3

Apply firm air/water spray to remove residual coagulum and test tissue for quality, profound hemostasis. If bleeding continues, repeat infusion technique.

Step 4

After complete hemostasis has been reached, excellent retraction is achieved through the use of Ultrapak™ knitted cord.

  • Applying pressure to the sulcus and scrubbing and rubbing seems counterintuitive to me. Wouldn’t that technique cause even more bleeding?

    We admit that it does seem counterintuitive at first. But years of quality hemostasis achieved with this technique has taught us that it truly does work. Scrubbing and rubbing the hemostatic into the cut tissue infuses the solution into the capillary openings, and the brush end of the Metal Dento-Infusor tip removes the excess off the cut tissue so that the only place where coagulum remains is within the cut capillary opening. A diamond bur rotating at a half million RPMs will cut connective tissue and epithelium, but the soft padded-brush end of the Metal Dento-Infusor tip will not. In addition, coagulum may accumulate around the tip, but by rubbing and scrubbing, the solution moves down within each cut capillary opening, plugging and sealing it off. Within 1 or 2 minutes, you will notice no new coagulum forming. You know the capillaries are sealed, and you know the bleeding is stopped. Should it take longer than 1 to 2 minutes, we suggest using a stronger hemostatic like Astringedent X hemostatic agent.

  • I’ve seen other tips like the Metal Dento-Infusor tip for sale from other companies. Why should I stick with the original?

    It’s true that other companies have created tips based on the advanced design of the Metal Dento-Infusor tip.
